General Information

Who can play

7th and 8th grade athletes currently enrolled at Lesher.

Team structure

36 total athletes across four teams:

• Varsity
• Junior Varsity
• C Team
• D Team

Athletes may move up or down teams during the season.

Open Gyms (optional)

Open Gyms are available prior to tryouts to help athletes refresh their skills and get a feel for the coaching staff. See the Key Dates section above for dates and times.

Tryouts

• Monday 10/26 – Wednesday 10/28, 2:45pm - 4:45pm
• A Gold Card is required by the start of tryouts (Monday 10/26).
• There are two rounds of cuts:
  • First round: at the end of tryouts on Tuesday 10/27
  • Final round: the final roster is posted on this website by 7:00pm Wednesday 10/28
• Athletes who don't make the team can meet with Coach Derek during the ELO period on Thursday 10/29.
• Athletes who don't make the final roster will receive a refund for athletic fees.

What you need

• Workout clothes for practices

Practice Format and Schedule

On non-game days M-TH, Varsity/JV practice from 2:35pm - 4:30pm and C/D practice from 4:30pm - 6:00pm.

Friday is a program-wide after school practice for all teams from 2:35 - 4:30pm.

C/D athletes may leave campus after school. If they stay, they must stay in the gym to work on homework and/or watch the V/JV practice.

Game Format and Schedule

We play games on Monday and Wednesday. On each game day, all teams play the same opponent but V/JV will play at one location and C/D will play at another location. Athletes must remain at the game site for the duration of both games. PSD provides bus transportation to the games, but does NOT provide bus transportation home following the games.

Registration

Registration is required by the start of tryouts (Monday, Oct. 26, 2026).

Register online through A Better Way at bit.ly/LesherAthletics26. Both the guardian and the athlete must complete their own required steps.

Guardian

1. Create an A Better Way account and complete registration. It takes about 30–40 minutes, and you can save your progress and come back later.
2. Watch the required guardian videos (about 7 minutes).
3. Upload pages 3–4 of a current PSD sports physical (PDF, JPG or PNG). Make sure the entire page is visible and both the athlete and guardian have signed.
   A physical is valid for one year and must be approved by the Athletic Director before practice.
4. Pay the $150 athletic fee online through SchoolPay (select "Middle School Athletic Participation Fee," then the sport), or by cash or check at 2407 LaPorte Ave., 8:00am–4:00pm. Payments are not accepted at schools. Fee waivers are available.

Athlete

1. Watch 4 short videos (15–20 minutes total, once per school year).
2. Once registration and the physical are approved, pick up your Gold Card from the office and give it to Coach Derek before participating.
